The problem with the perposal of motorcycles is a logistics issue. Accountability, security, cost of parts etc... it'd take a fairly large motor pool staff and each unit would require an additional unit of paperpushers to keep track of it all.

as for the vehicles themselves, tey get hit by an IED, they're fucking gone. In Iraq, it makes alot more sence to use convoys then it does motorcycles, convoys can take a hit better, and transport troops around all the same. usually when Soldiers in Iraq are on the ground walking, they're raiding, or pulling security.

In Afghanistan, they might work for quick raids, but the enemy likes to hide in the mountians where heavy armor and artillery can't reach them. they prefer to go agianst Airborne and Airassault forces that rely on helos that they can shoot down.

also, you put a GPS locator on each one so that if it is stolen by the enemy you can dial in its location and either go get them or send a cruise missile to its location. Or even program it to self-destruct if stolen.

3D and Blakely,
Here is my crazy idea of the day. I have just been reading about how generals are telling soldiers to get out of tanks and Humvees and walk because the ammunition that the insurgents and al-qaeda fighters use can easily blow them up now and they make easy targets. But walking in 120 degree heat with 80lbs on your back sucks too. Why not equip soldiers with extremely fast motorcycles (either enduros or crotch rockets, depending on the setting), have them modified to have places to carry ammo, radios, etc. And train soldiers to ride like champs in boot camp. They would be a harder target to hit, fresher when they went into gun battles, and, I believe, more likely to make it back to their base when the battle is over. Crazy idea?

Actually thats just one of the tasks for our soldiers, as for RANGERS our main goal is to locate, engage and destroy the enemy. Ofcourse, gather intel while we're at it. 40,000 dogs to sniff bombs would be nice, but that is alot of dogs nuts. Plus to train a dog would take atleast a year or so, so America needs to start trainning. Hey I am all for alternative solution that keep our soldiers out of harms way, but though a good idea, at this stage of the war I am not sure if we could get the dogs in time to make a difference.

stockpile's aren't the problem.we find those everyday. All you gotta do is capture yourself a bomb maker or trigger puller some one at the low end ofthe spectrum, offer not to kill him, some food, water, etc... and he'll tell you where their stockpiles are. The problem is, theres so many weapons in Iraq, you can have your cache raided by the americans, then go to one of the old republican guard bases and re-supply.

As for Training IP And IM outside of Iraq, thats actually one of the best Idea's I've heard in a long time. Your right, A warzone isn't the place to train recruits, letalone the new Non-Commissioned Officer corse they're trying to train Iraqies for nowa days.

which is in it'self a doubble edged sword, because now yes the Soldiers get leadership at a ground level, but now that just makes the Iraqi Officers jellous for power. Training them in say, saudi arabia, might be a more appropriate place, though i say that might piss alot of extreamists off even more.

I understand that Muslims HATE dogs and find them offensive. But I would argue that IEDs are even more offensive than dogs.

Blakely and 3D,
It seems like a major issue is locating the insurgent's stockpiles of explosives. Why doesn't the military train 40,000 Bloodhounds to sniff out explosives and ship them to Iraq and let them lead our soldiers to the stockpiles?

Blakely,
It sounds like we are in a "Cold War" with Iran. There are many Iranians who want to live in the modern world rather than the medieval theocracy that the Ayatollahs have created. We need to find ways to help them gradually overthrow the theocracy from within. The Iranians need to stand up to their own government - just as the Iraqis should have stood up to Saddam. They could have brought him to his knees if they had the courage to do it. If nobody shows up to work, the Ayatollah's and President Mahmoud can't last. Unified nonviolent resistance to the government works every time. Lech Walesa demonstrated how to do it when the Polish workers overthrew the brutal communists in Poland. That's the model.

Afghanistan is the real interesting side. Iran is helping both sides of the Afghan war. yes, it's true that Iran and the Taliban used to be mortal enemies, but Irans options are a little limited when it's borders are flooded with Christian enemies, as is he Taliban when they've gone from ruling the majority of a country, to being just another insurgent group. In truth our invasion of Afghanistan is the best thing to happen for Iran in terms of the Taliban. Before they're enemies, looking to kill each other, but now the Taliban is alot more desperate, and Iran is looking to take advantage of that. They supply them weapons o destroy the infidels, give them money to build Shia mosques (The Taliban is more focused on being Muslim then it is being Sunni or Shia) They build them Madrassa's (Islamic schools) they build leverage with them.

on the other end they do the same thing with the Northern Alliance, who, while still our Allies, is getting a little perturbed because before our invasion their war with the Taliban was based on their border areas, now it's spread all over Northern Alliance Territory. they give them weapons to deal with the Taliban scum who've invaded their lands, they teach them how to use them, they help re-build the mosques and madrassas, which will conveniently be shia.

It's Interesting how Iran has learned manipulation from us.
