We are Obligated to Defend –
PART – A
This week, a Senate committee in secret session approved new Patriot Act provisions that are nothing less than
an end-run around the Constitution. The proposed new government powers would allow the FBI to issue
search orders without prior judicial approval and to seize personal records from medical facilities, libraries, hotels,
gun dealers, banks and other businesses without any specific suspicion of criminal activity, or any
specific facts connecting the records sought to an agent of a foreign government
Efforts to reform the Patriot Act and resist this latest Bush Administration power grab are well underway,
and Congress is facing new pressure from Americans across the political spectrum
The Bush Administration wants the Patriot Act made permanent, it wants even more power, and it does not
want Congress to ask any more meddlesome questions about the Bill of Rights.
The full Congress could debate and vote on the Patriot Act as early as the end of this month.
Without exaggeration, the stakes have never been higher for civil liberties in America.
This historic debate over our system of laws, our fundamental freedoms and our national character.
The Patriot Act should not be made permanent, and it absolutely must not be expanded.
Our rights as individuals — the very foundation of our great democracy — depend on our willingness
to defend them.
PART – B
WE ARE OBLIGATED TO DEFEND
THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
As American Citizens we are obligated to defend the Constitution of the United States of America.
This also applies to George Bush, who does not defend the Constitution . . . he merely hires people
to figure out how to shred that Constitution . . . The judges to rule on this shredding of the Constitution.
In addition, the Constitution also states, “If we have a leader who attempts to undermine the Constitution,
we not only have a right, but a DUTY to put him down . . . BY FORCE, IF NECESSARY!”
There are many American Citizens who have awaken and realize the road this country is taking,
these Americans are not just sitting around and talking about this problem, they are taking action.
Some are Liberal, some are of the Religious Right, some are Democrat some are Republican.
Some are Moderate some are radical. They come from all categories of political and religious beliefs.
These groups of Americans, though very diversified, have one common goal.
To protect and defend the “Constitution of the United States” and the “Bill of Rights”
Your rights, my rights, our rights as individuals – the very foundation of this country -
The future of our great democracy – depend upon the willingness of a generation of citizens
I will call The Samarians of America.
“The Samarians of America” are willing to defend and to protect all of our rights as American Citizens,
as so specified in our Constitution and “Bill of Rights”.
It is not just one girl you have named the Wacko Moderate Wordy Drama Queen,
The Samarians of America are of a generation born when America was Apple Pie, Country Nights,
and Drive-in-Movies on Friday night. School dances with chaperones. Then one day the Apple Pie spoiled,
the Country Nights turned into Protests and killings, the Drive-in-Movies were replaced by children
leaving to Vietnam and coming back home in body bags. The Great Men this generation
looked up to and believed in – were murdered, shot down in the streets of America.
There became danger of death on college grounds.
The streets of quiet little country towns overflowed with hateful war protesters.
Then the Vietnam War ended, and those younger and those older thought this generation would just
fade into the mainstream of America. We did, for a long time, but now we are again, with sword in hand,
but this time there will be no protest in the streets, no killing on College grounds.
This time our Samaria Sword has changed into legal documents.
Our blade is not sharp it is the Constitution of The United States of America.
This time the battle of The Samaria Generation is to defend this great country from those who are
shredding these great documents – in the name of – - – - – ?
I am proud to be of The Samaria Generation,
In all that I have stated above, I stand behind my President, but still have the right to question my
President if I believe he is not defending that which I am defending, The Constitution.
I stand behind my President on the War in Iraq. This is my duty as an American Citizen.
It does not matter if I believe the war is right or wrong. I took the oath and I stand behind my oath.
Overall, the only action I am taking is that of a responsible American Citizen.

Which oath was this? How can one “stand behind” the president yet disagree with his actions?
The Patriot Act will follow the same fate as McCarthyism, racism, sexism, et al.

K. Marx,
When you say that the so-called “Patriot Act” will follow the same fate as McCarthyism, racism, sexism etc I hope that you are completely right. The Patriot Act, like the other institutionalized affronts to our constitution that you cited, is an act of war against our constitution. It is a full frontal assault on the fundamental rights granted to us by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The Orwellian choice of the nick name “Patriot Act” is bizzare but it is in keeping with other Bush linguistic ploys like the “Clear Skies Act,” an act that has done more to promote air pollution than any legislation in history. The phoney character of Bush’s policies seems to go right over the heads of many. I feel morally obligated to help people understand the tragedy that is happening to this country that I love with all of my heart. Discere Aude.

Suzanne; re: #5.
Yes, my question, “Which oath was this?”, means: Which oath were you referring to when you said, “I stand behind my President on the War in Iraq. This is my duty as an American Citizen.
It does not matter if I believe the war is right or wrong. I took the oath and I stand behind my oath.“?
Your oath in the military? To the military?
We have to stand behind the president on his every decision, even if we disagree? That sounds like something more fitting to an absolutist or totalitarian state, not a democratic one. Perhaps I’m misreading what you wrote. Forgive me, for true meaning, especially when considering the possible use of sarcasm, is extremely difficult to pick up on when reading posts on a forum.
Suzanne Says: June 13th, 2005 at 9:08 am
I guess you have never been in the military.
There are written and unwritten rules.
I walk a very thin line what with that I write on this site and on my site
http://flowersinmyhair0.tripod.com
Actually, I cross over the line.
There is a special reason why I can get away with the things I write and others
can not. I am not regular military, though I am military, if I seem vague this is because I must be vague.
This is all I can write on this site, If you wish to email me, I might consider telling you a tiny bit more if interested; (only because it is you K.Marx) but still it is best if we just drop this subject.

For awhile there, after I posted all those commentaries on The Patriot Act, and the Bill of Rights: then when the word “Wacko” was used in reference to me – I became very upset.
Now, suddendly, all the comments are following along with exactly that which I have been Wacko about,
Your line above ” feel morally obligated to help people understand the tragedy that is happening to this country that I love with all of my heart.”
That goes for the both of us.
Thanks

Our Constition was one of the most beautiful documents in history ( I don’t necessarily mean physically, but you know what I mean ), why change it?
It’s a shame that so many people who disagree with it ( there are people who do ) haven’t even read it…
A little unrelated but oh well.
Brooks Kinch Says: June 15th, 2005 at 8:43 pm
Oh and by the way, I keep a Constition handy in my household for solving arguements…
Anna Says: June 16th, 2005 at 2:52 am
Brooks,
What is a “Constition?” I can’t find that word in my dictionary.
Suzanne Says: June 16th, 2005 at 7:36 am
Anna, it is neither in the dictionary nor in the English language.
I think she might be speaking of “The Constitution”. Strange, how so many cannot spell that they consider knowing everything about it (Constition) and using it to solve arguments. Well, she is using the wrong documents for this purpose.
She should be using The United States Constitution, along with the Bill of Rights.
On the other hand, she might be writing about something we know nothing about. Alternatively, it may be a word in a different language. Not in the English dictionary,
I tried a web search for “Constition” and nothing came up. They wrote that I might try a different spelling
Suzanne
PS I also think the correct structure should be
I keep a copy of The Constitution in my home so we may use it as reference to solve arguments.

To again, Brooks, comment #9
- Exact statement including spelling from your comment #9- “Our Constition was one of the most beautiful documents in history” -
First – WAS?
Second – no such thing as “Our Constition”.
Correction – Our Constitution and The Bill of Rights are the most important documents written in the history of this country, (present tense (are), not past tense (was)-)
Before you claim that those who disagree with “it” please learn what “it” is and how to spell “it” and then read “it”
The topics of most of my commentaries are “not to change The Constitution or the Bill of Rights, and still you do not like me

Final Comment to Brooks on this subject – at least for today.
If you are referring to my above commentary
” As American Citizens we are obligated to defend the Constitution of the United States of America.”
- Try reading my commentary about “The US Constitution and Christianity” – Neither commentary would have been possible to write unless I has read and studied The Constitution. If you are referring that I am disagreeing with The Constitution, you need to brush up on your English. In addition, if the statement of being shameful was in reference to me, and your dislike for me. This based upon a commentary you do not understand. The commentary based upon The Constitution, which clearly you also do not understand. – I am at a loss for words, can you believe that? I think all I can say is the shame is on you.

Suzanne, something you and I agree on. Defend the Constitution against her enemies, foreign and domestic. Probably should start with judges and lawyers (on both sides of the fence), as they do the most damage on a day to day basis.
zoot potato Says: June 17th, 2005 at 3:31 am
c’mon, anna, If the only thing you can comment on is spelling, you probably shouldn’t comment at all.
Oddly for being the liberal that I am, Something I don’t like in is when criminals go free when policemen find things on them without a search warrent. A question I ask myself, though, is how do we treat the policemen that find nothing at all. However, I dislike much (but not all) of the patriot act…
What Suzanna and Anna show above is open-mindedness, which I thought was dead in conservatives and liberals alike (including myself) around this site during the 2004 presidential election
That being said, I have an off-topic, liberal question to ask:
Above, Suzanna commented that it is her duty “as an American Citizen” to support the war in Iraq, which begins to interest me more and more, especially after the release of the Downing Street memos, memos that seemingly state the Bush admin knew Saddam wasn’t a WMD threat and stated the admin was fixing intelligence to go to war.
This is troubling to say the least, but it still can be argued as an overblown event. What are your thoughts on the memos?
Anna Says: June 17th, 2005 at 10:13 pm
Zoot Potato,
If you have been reading the comments lately, you will know that spelling isn’t all that I comment on. To elaborate on my reaction to Brooks’s comment, however, I must say that I don’t see how the US constitution would allow one to effectively settle disputes within the home. When my brother and I disagree on who should get to use the computer at a particular time, for example, what part of the Constitution should my dad consult when attempting to reach a fair settlement? You see, Brooks’s comment was just goofy – so being in a goofy mood myself, I decided to play along for shits and giggles. Please pardon me.
Lefty Says: June 18th, 2005 at 4:21 am
Zoot,
The Downing Street Memos have been a hot topic here lately. I think that they reveal several things. First, the show that Bush and his team had remarkable confidence in their capacity to deceive and mislead the american people. Second, they show that hubris leads to destruction. I think the administration will be undone by the British documents showing that Bush and his administration systematically mislead us all.
Suzanne Says: June 18th, 2005 at 10:48 am

If you might try and read some other comments I have made, I have not said I support the war in Iraq, what I have stated, is, well read
Commets 4-5-6-7
This might give you an idea of what I can and can not write.
Good Grief before you condem me, read my comments, already Brook dislikes me, and does not know me, you say I am all in favor of the war in Iraq, yet you did not bother to read those comments and if you did then you have not the slightest idea of what I wrote.
How old are some of those who write on this site.
I think one should be at least old enough to know something about the military, about oaths, about something.
