PETRAEUS OR BE-TRAY-US? HERE’S YOUR ANSWER

Below is a copy of a “New Years Thank-You” letter that General David Petraeus wrote to the troops and civilians under his command in Iraq. As you read it try to recall the MoveOn.org advertisement that accused Petraeus of betraying the American people. Compare his words of hope, encouragement and thanksgiving to the putrid bile spewed out by MoveOn and others. As he talks of victory and the challenges ahead, think back to Pelosi and Reid delcaring the “war is lost”, Obama’s call for immediate withdrawl and the liberal mindset of cut and run.

Thank God for men like General David Petraeus and for men and women like those who serve under him.

Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, and Civilians of Multi-National Force-Iraq:

As 2007 draws to a close, you should look back with pride on what you, your fellow troopers, our Iraqi partners, and Iraqi Coalition civilians have achieved in 2007. A year ago, Iraq was racked by horrific violence and on the brink of civil war. Now, levels of violence and civilians and military casualties are significantly reduced and hope has been rekindled in many Iraqi communities. To be sure, the progress is reversible and there is much more to be done. Nonetheless, the hard-fought accomplishments of 2007 have been substantial, and I want to thank each of you for the contributions you made to them.

In response to the challenges that faced Iraq a year ago, we and our Iraqi partners adopted a new approach. We increased our focus on securing the Iraqi people and, in some cases, delayed transition of tasks to Iraqi forces. Additional U.S. and Georgian forces were deployed to theater, the tours of U.S. unites were extended, and Iraqi forces conducted a surge of their own, generating well over 100,000 more Iraqi police and soldiers during the year so that they, too, had additional forces to execute the new approach. In places like Ramadi, Baqubah, Arab Jabour, and Baghdad, you and our Iraqi brothers fought–often house by
house, block by block, and neighborhood by neighborhood–to wrest sanctuaries away from Al Qaeda-Iraq, to disrupt extremist militia elements, and to rid the streets of mafia-like criminals. Having cleared areas, you worked with Iraqis to retain them–establishing outposts in the areas we were securing, developing Iraqi Security Forces, and empowering locals to help our efforts. This approach has not been easy. It has required steadfastness in the conduct of tough offensive operations, creative solutions to the myriad problems on the ground, and persistence over the course of many months and during countless trying situations. Through it all, you have proven equal to every task, continually demonstrating an impressive ability to conduct combat and stability operations in an exceedingly complex environment.

Your accomplishments have given the Iraqi people new confidence and prompted many citizens to reject terror and confront those who practice it. As the months passed in 2007, in fact, the tribal awakening that began in Al Anbar Province spread to other parts of the country. Emboldened by improving security and tired of indiscriminate violence, extremist ideology, oppressive practices, and criminal activity, Iraqis increasingly rejected Al Qaeda-Iraq and rogue militia elements. Over time, the desire of Iraqis to contribute to their own security has manifested itself in citizens volunteering for the police, the Army, and concerned local citizen programs. It has been reflected in citizens providing information that has helped us find far more than double the number of arms and weapons caches we found last year. And it has been apparent in Iraqi communities now supporting their local security forces.

As a result of your hard work and that of our Iraqi comrades-in-arms–and with the support of the local populace in many areas–we have seen significant improvements in the security situation. The number of attacks per week is down some 60 percent from a peak in June of this year to a level last seen consistently in the early summer of 2005. With fewer attacks, we are also seeing significantly reduced loss of life. The number of civilian deaths is down by some 75 percent since its height a year ago, dropping to a level not seen since the beginning of 2006. And the number of Coalition losses is down substantially as well. We remain mindful that the past year’s progress has been purchased through the sacrifice and selfless service of all those involved and that the new Iraq must still contend with innumerable enemies and obstacles. Al Qaeda-Iraq has been significantly degraded, but it remains capable of horrific bombings. Militia extremists have been disrupted, but they retain influence in many areas. Criminals have been apprehended, but far too many still roam Iraqi streets and intimidate local citizens and Iraqi officials. We and our Iraqi partners will have to deal with each of these challenges in the New Year to keep the situation headed in the right direction.

While the progress in a number of areas is fragile, the security improvements have significantly changed the situation in many parts of Iraq. It is now imperative
that we take advantage of these improvements by looking beyond the security arena and helping Iraqi military and political leaders as they develop solutions in other areas as well, solutions they can sustain over time. At the tactical level, this means an increasing focus on helping not just Iraqi Security Forces–with whom we must partner in all that we do–but also helping Iraqi governmental organizations as they endeavor to restore basic services, to create employment opportunities, to revitalize local markets, to refurbish schools, to spur local economic activity, and to keep locals involved in contributing to local security. We will have to do all of this, of course, while continuing to draw down our forces, thinning our presence, and gradually handing over responsibilities to our Iraqi partners. Meanwhile, at the national level, we will focus on helping the Iraqi Government integrate local volunteers into the Iraqi Security Forces and other employment, develop greater ministerial capacity and capability, aid displaced persons as they return, and, most importantly, take the all-important political and economic actions needed to exploit the opportunity provided by the gains in the security arena.

The pace of progress on important political actions to this point has been slower than Iraqi leaders had hoped. Still, there have been some important steps taken in recent months. Iraq’s leaders reached agreement on the Declaration of Principles for Friendship and Cooperation with the United States, which lays the groundwork for an enduring relationship between our nations. The United Nations Security Council approved Iraq’s request for a final renewal of the resolution that authorizes the Coalition to operate in Iraq. Iraq’s leaders passed an important Pension Law that not only extends retirement benefits to Iraqis previously left out but also represents the first of what we hope will be additional measures fostering national reconciliation. And Iraq’s leaders have debated at length a second reconciliation-related measure, the Accountability and Justice Bill (the de-Ba’athification Reform Law), as well as the 2008 National Budget, both which likely will be brought up for a vote in early 2008. Even so, all Iraqi participants recognize that much more must be done politically to put their country on an irreversible trajectory to national reconciliation and sustainable economic development. We will, needless to say, work closely with our Embassy teammates to support the Iraq Government as it strives to take advantage of the improved security environment by pursing political and economic progress.

The New Year will bring many changes. Substantial force rotations and adjustments already underway will continue. One Army brigade combat team and a Marine Expeditionary Unit have already redeployed without replacement. In the coming months, four additional brigades and two Marine battalions will follow suit. Throughout that time, we will continue to adapt to the security situation as it evolves. And in the midst of all the changes, we and our Iraqi partners will strive to maintain the momentum, to press the fight, and to pursue Iraq’s enemies relentlessly. Solutions to many of the tough problems will continue to be found at your level, together with local Iraqi leaders and with your Iraqi Security Force partners, in company and battalion areas of operation and in individual neighborhoods an towns. As you and your Iraqi partners turn concepts into reality, additional progress will emerge slowly and fitfully. Over time, we will gradually see fewer bad days and accumulate more good days, good weeks, and good months.

The way ahead will not be easy. Inevitably, there will be more tough days and tough weeks. Unforeseen challenges will emerge. And success will require continued hard work, commitment, and initiative from all involved. As we look to the future, however, we should remember how far we have come in the past year. Thanks to the tireless efforts and courageous actions of the Iraqi people, Iraq’s political and military leaders, the Iraqi Security Forces, and each of you, a great deal has been achieved in 2007. Thus, as we enter a new year, we and our Iraqi partners will have important accomplishments and a newfound sense of hope on which we can build.

As always, all or your leaders, our fellow citizens back home, and I deeply appreciate the dedication, professionalism, commitment, and courage you display on a daily basis. It remains the greatest of honors to serve with each of you in this critical endeavor.

Sincerely,

David H. Petraeus

Bhutto’s Courage Beyond Compare

The assasination of Benazir Bhutto strikes me as the ultimate display of personal and political courage. Bhutto had to know that returning to Pakistan after years of exile would put her life in danger. Bhutto had to know that calling for democracy in a Muslim country where al Queda still functions openly was like signing a death warrant.

Yet she did.

She returned to Pakistan at a time when the country was in turmoil and when the current Prime Minister Musharraf was tightening his dictatorial grip in the face of mounting opposition. She returned knowing that everyday she walked out of her door people were plotting to kill her.

Say what you will about her past and her politics, but she deserves nothing but praise for her passion and loyalty for her country and her incredible courage.

When you juxtapose her courage in the face of death with the “so-called” courageous acts of suicide bombers killing innocents in the name of Alah, there is no comparison. How could Alah, God or any person look at Bhutto and her assasin and consider them equally. One person murdered innocent bystanders with a burning hatred in his heart. The other died while trying to serve others.

Which one do you think is going to heaven?

A Surprise Visit

‘Tis Christmas here at Jiaotong U
The lights aren’t up, what can I do
Our Allen has a Christmas tree
I wonder where can Allen be

‘Tis Christmas in the classroom now
My students test what I’ll allow
They throw stuff at the Christmas tree
But hit the wall and poor ole me

The star atop the shining tree
It wavers, falls and crashes free
With shaking hands I grab the glass
And throw it in the nearby trash

The students now refuse to budge
‘Tis Christmas now and time to judge
Their creative lines of poetry
As they all line up by the Christmas tree

The first one reads her lines of joy
Screaming and yelling to annoy
Her teacher on this Christmas day
A day of shock with much dismay

The next one sings a song of love
Her voice moves out and floats above
Yelling classmates in disarray
They’re having fun. It’s Christmas day!

Christmas poems are sung nonstop
Some do rock while others hip hop
Their songs float out the open door
Crashing loudly along the floor

All of a sudden before I could blink
In popped a fat man, old St. Nick
He shouted a word in Chinese
Stopping the noise, an instant freeze

Squatting down with a sack of stuff
Colorful boxes, strangely enough
The students were now in their seats
Waiting for their expected treats

Sure enough, as quick as foxes
Ole St. Nick passed out his boxes
All the students got gifts so fine
So I asked ST. Nick where was mine

He looked at me with a wink and a smile
As he walked slowly down the aisle
“Your gifts are who you teach each day,”
He said, disappearing out the doorway.

‘Tis Christmas here at Jiaotong U
The party’s over, we’re all through
All my students have gone away
‘Tis really Christmas every day

TAKE UP YOUR CROSS AND FOLLOW HUCKABEE?

And now the award for the most idiotic story of the primary campaign….
AND THE WINNER IS…..
MIKE HUCKABEE’S FLOATING CROSS TV COMMERCIAL!

Before I rant…please watch.
“>

Let me ask a few questions. First. Where did this story come from? Does anybody know what news outlet or blog or person first said, “Hey, that’s a floating cross! Mike Huckabee’s trying to sneak a floating cross into a commercial about the birthday of Jesus. Quick, get me a an expert on subliminal advertising! Does anybody really and truely believe that the Huckabee campaign thought it neccessary to set up a video shoot to make it look a cross was floating behind his head? Why? To win the evangelical vote? HE’S ALREADY GOT IT!

Secondly…IT’S THE WRONG IMAGE ANYWAY? Huckabee, a former Baptist minister, trained theologian and holder of an advanced degree in religious studies, would probably use the old “floating star in the east trick” for a Christmas TV spot. The cross represents Christ’s death, resurrection and atonement for our sins….NOT HIS BIRTHDAY!

I bet the real problem was they couldn’t find a bookcase that was designed to look like star.

WAIT A MINUTE, I JUST WATCHED THE AD AGAIN AND RIGHT NEAR THE NED YOU A BUNCH OF COLORED LIGHTS HANGING ON A TREE…ALL THE COLORS OF THE RAINBOW…HEY WAIT, ISN’T A RAINBOW LIKE AN ICON OF THE GAY MOVEMENT…HUCKABEE’S GAY…HE’S TRYING TO TELL US HE’S GAY…NO WAIT…THAT’S AN ENDORSEMENT FROM JESSE JACKSON’S RAINBOW COALITION…NO, MAYBE IT’S THE TREE…HE’S A TREE HUGGER….THAT IT, NO WAIT……

HUCKBEE RISE IS MITT ROMNEY’S BLESSING

I watched Mitt Romney on Meet The Press this Sunday. WOW! That’s the first time I’ve every really seen a glimpse of the “presidential” Mitt Romney I’ve heard people talk about.

Tim Russert hit him with some tough questions regarding his faith, his flip-flops and more and Romney demonstrated how a president and a candidate should answer questions.

ON FAITH
Russert asked Romney a series of questions about his faith but the answer that stuck out the most for me, and I’m sure for many, was the one where Romney got a little emotional as he recalled his answer. It was a revealing moment into who Mitt Romney is.

MR. RUSSERT: You, you raise the issue of color of skin. In 1954 the U.S. Supreme Court, Brown vs. Board of Education, desegregated all our public schools. In 1964 civil rights laws giving full equality to black Americans. And yet it wasn’t till 1978 that the Mormon church decided to allow blacks to participate fully. Here was the headlines in the papers in June of ‘78. “Mormon Church Dissolves Black Bias. Citing new revelation from God, the president of the Mormon Church decreed for the first time black males could fully participate in church rites.” You were 31 years old, and your church was excluding blacks from full participation. Didn’t you think, “What am I doing part of an organization that is viewed by many as a racist organization?”

GOV. ROMNEY: I’m very proud of my faith. It’s the faith of my fathers, and I certainly believe that it’s true and I love my faith. And I’m not going to distance myself in any way from my faith. But you can see what I believed and what my family believed by looking at our lives. My dad marched with Martin Luther King. My mom was a tireless crusader for civil rights. You may recall that my dad walked out of the Republican convention in 1964 in San Francisco in part because Barry Goldwater, in his speech, gave my dad the impression that he was someone who was going to be weak on civil rights. So my dad’s reputation, my mom’s and my own has always been one of reaching out to people and not discriminating based upon race or anything else. And so those are my fundamental core beliefs, and I was anxious to see a change in my church.

I can remember when, when I heard about the change being made. I was driving home from, I think, it was law school, but I was driving home, going through the Fresh Pond rotary in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I heard it on the radio, and I pulled over and literally wept. Even to this day it’s emotional, and so it’s very deep and fundamental in my life and my most core beliefs that all people are children of God. My faith has always told me that. My faith has also always told me that, in the eyes of God, every individual merited the fullest degree of happiness in the hereafter and I had no question in my mind that African-Americans and, and blacks generally, would have every right and every benefit in the hereafter that anyone else had and that God is no respecter of persons.

After that response, how could any further discussion of this matter be anything but old news.

ON ABORTION FLIP FLOPS
Russert played some videotape of Romney basically saying he was pro choice, then got into the questioning.

MR. RUSSERT: You now have said you support the 2004 Republican Party platform, which says this: “We say the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We” suggest “a human life amendment to the Constitution.” Such amendment would ban abortions all across the country. Why such a dramatic and profound change after pledging never to waiver on a woman’s right to choose?

GOV. ROMNEY: Well, you know, Tim, I was always personally opposed to abortion, as I think almost everyone in this nation is. And the question for me was, what is the role of government? And it was quite theoretical and, and philosophical to consider what the role of government should be in this regard, and I felt that the Supreme Court had spoken and that government shouldn’t be involved and let people make their own decision. And that all made a lot of sense to me.

And then I became governor and the theoretical became reality, if you will. A bill came to my desk which related to the preservation of life. In this case, it happened to be a bill that would authorize cloning, as well as embryo farming, which would be creating new embryos for the purpose of research and then destroying them. And I brought in people from across the country to talk about this bill, from theologians to scientists, the provost of Harvard University and others, and we talked about it. And I recognized that I simply could not be part of an effort that would cause the destruction of human life. And I didn’t hide from that change of heart. I wrote an op-ed piece in The Boston Globe, described my view that I am pro-life, described why I had changed to become pro-life. I recognize it’s a change. You can find many, many instances of my indicating my position previous to that time of being effectively pro-choice. I didn’t call myself pro-choice, but my position was effectively pro-choice. And that position changed. It changed at that point. And every piece of legislation which came to my desk in the coming years as the governor, I came down on the side of preserving the sanctity of life.

That’s a pretty good answer. In fact the more I listened to Romney, the more I liked what I heard.

I couldn’t help but think, especially after seeing the full on frontal assault against Mike Huckabee, that now is the opportune time for Mitt Romney to get his groove back. Huckabee’s wake is pushing aside Guliani and the others, but if Romney can keep the ship afloat and keep giving solid answers to the tough questions like he got this Sunday he may well emerge as the front runner again.

But in this race…who knows?

The Communistic Microcosm of Our Society

Thank you, sir, for letting it be known
I went out and joined it, all on my own
This communistic microcosm of our society
Must have been a problem with my sobriety

In basic training I learned to say comrade
And was taught that all capitalism was bad
In this communistic microcosm of our society
Must have been a problem with my sobriety

After basic brainwashing I went to Monterey
Thought I had volunteered but I had no say
In this communistic microcosm of our society
Must have been a problem with my sobriety

After Monterey they took my possessions
I got my ID card and had to do confessions
In this communistic microcosm of our society
Must have been a problem with my sobriety

Like Stalin, my first boss was an evil dictator
I was sure we had coffee each morning together
In this communistic microcosm of our society
Must have been a problem with my sobriety

I fought for the rights of my capitalist mommie
You know the one who made me a commie
In this communistic microcosm of our society
Must have been a problem with my sobriety

They told me we were fighting for the free
Each time I busted one of those red chinee
For this communistic microcosm of our society
Must have been a problem with my sobriety

Now here I sit really confused about my life
Thought I was an airman so it cuts like a knife
Working for a communistic microcosm of our society
For sure it was a problem with my sobriety

HUCKABEE: WAYNE DUMOND’S PAROLE

I’ve done more inquiry into Mike Huckabee’s issues than any other candidate. As an Arkansas resident during his tenure as govenor I have first hand knowledge of many of the actions and positions that are now being held against him by conservatives, and you know what?.
mike_huckabee_portrait.jpg
The more I see him on the campaign trail, the more he gets attacked, by Republicans and conservatives no less, the more I’d like to see him as the next candidate for president.

National Review just announced their endorsement of Mitt Romney, obviously to do their part in quelling Huckabee’s recent surge. The funny part is, their endorsement is more like, We don’t like Huckabee. He’s bad. He’s not conservative, really…and, oh by the way we endorse Romney. Michelle Malkin’s column today is a mudslinging attack on Huckabee’s immigration policy and she pretty much says Huckabee is just a liar, you just wait and see.

What’s up? Are these and other conservative pundits genuinely questioning Huckabee’s conservative bonefides or are they so afraid of Huckabee’s viability as the Republican candidate that they look past the facts?

Right now the media is hammering Huckabee on the Wayne Dumond case. Let’s take a look at it.
dumond.jpg
WAYNE DUMOND: The conventional wisdom is that Huckabee is soft on crime and has poor judgement as evidenced by his pardoning of Wayne Dumond, a convicted rapist.

THE FACTS are that Huckabee DID NOT pardon Dumond, he was paroled by a parole board consisting of Democrat appointees. DID HUCKABEE INFLUENCE THE BOARD’S DECISION? Possibly. Probably! But he had a pretty good argument for Dumond’s release.

In 1984 Dumond was arrested for raping Ashley Stevens, a high school cheerleader in Forrest City, AR, a distant cousin of then govenor Bill Clinton and the daughter of Clinton’s largest campaign donor. As you’ll read later, that may have had a bearing on Huckabee’s decision at the time. The judge in the case, who later became active in trying to help Dumond overturn his conviction, set Dumond free after sentencing to allow him to get his affairs in order. Before Dumond could turn himself in to serve his sentence, he claimed that two assailants broke into his home, sodomized and raped him and with a surgical scaple, cut off his testicles. He was found by his two sons, hog-tied and near death. The sherriff, who conducted no investigation into the assault and in fact claimed that the castration was possibly self-inflicted, collected Dumond’s testicals in a jar and kept them on display in his office. Dumond actually sued the county and the sherriff for this offense and won. On a side note, the sherriff was later convicted of RICO violations and sentenced to 60 years in prison.

In spite of forensic evidence and defense testimony that indicated it was not Dumond’s sperm found at the scene, he was found guilty of the rape was sentenced to life plus 20 years. I haven’t been able to find any other rape cases where a first time rape conviction carried a sentence of life, plus 20 years. There is no question that Dumond was a seedy character, having been involved in previous criminal activity, but none-the-less, he had never been convicted of a felony.

In 1992, after serving about 7 years of his sentence, which is way more than the average time served for first-time convicted rapist, the then acting Democratic Govenor of Arkansas, JIm Guy Tucker, commuted Dumond’s sentence to 39 and a half years, which is the act that made him eligible for parole. However, he was denied parole on several occasions.

2 years later, Huckabee was elected govenor and after about a few months on the job had his first meeting with the parole board. That meeting is where supposedly, this young Republican govenor, only months on the job, was able to launch his arm-twisting, cajole and threatening of the entire parole board of Democrat appointees. Curious.

Why would Huckabee even undertake such a course of action? Well, there were a number of people who were concerned about whether or not Dumond was even guilty. There was, after all, evidence in question. Some people were, at the time, accusing the Clinton machine of possibly railroading the conviction of Dumond to satisfy family revenge or payback a political donar. Certainly not provable, but certainly part of the discussion at the time. Also, there was an argument to be made that with all of the issues surrounding the case, combined with the fact that Dumond had already served more time any first time convicted rapist, a pardon or parole of Dumond, was not an unreasonable thing to consider.

So in October, 1999, after serving 14 years for the rape of Ashley Stevens, Dumond was paroled and moved to Missouri. Less than two years later he was convicted of the rape and murder of a Missouri woman, suspected in the rape and murder of another Missouri woman and he died in prison the day after losing his appeal on the first charge.

The real tragedy in all of this is the death of those woman. It could not have been predicted, in spite of all the brilliant hindsight being demonstrated by Huckabee’s detractors, who could know what Dumond would do? And what if Huckabee had not released Dumond. He most certainly would have made parole by now and in hindsight, probably would have killed or raped again.

Would all of these people who are pointing the finger at Huckabee have championed the cause of a rapist serving 40 years in the crowded Arkansas prison system? Doubtful. There are rapists and even murders who have been paroled in much less time, without the benefit of extenuating circumstances that called their convictions into question.

I’m not apologizing for or defending Dumond’s atrocities, but reality is reality. This was not just some namby-pamby act of liberal self indulgence. This was a govenor who was under pressure to use his power in a case that seemed to be calling out for it. And the fact is, Huckabee did not pardon Dumond! He as paroled in a 4 to 1 decision by a group of citizens who cannot use the argument that they were forced into it. In all likelyhood they pardoned Dumond for the same reasons Huckabee wanted to parole him. There was just to much that stunk about the case and he had already paid his debt to society.

It turned out tragically for Dumonds future victims, but does that mean Huckabee is unfit to be president? Absolutely not. In fact, I think just the opposite is true. His experience in the Wayne Dumond case has taught Huckabee a valuable lesson and there is no greater asset for a president than experience, both good and bad.

God, Guns & Video Tape

I just finished watching a video tape of the Jeanne Assam’s press conference. Assam is the security guard who shot and killed the gunman who killed four people at the New Life Church in Colorado. This was the same gunman who shot four people, killing two at a missonary training center 12 hours earlier.

Assam, a beautiful, rather petite, blonde-haired woman is not the image you imagine when somebody says a security guard shot and killed a gunman. A witness to the event, Larry Broubannis, was inteviewed on the Today and said he was hiding behind a pole and another armed security guard was nearby. The witness said the other guard seemed content to stay hidden so he asked the guard several times to hand over his gun so he could go after the shooter. Bourbannis said he stepped out from behind the column several times and shouted at the gunman to draw his fire. That’s when he saw Assam, with her weapon drawn emerge from behind another column and start shooting at the gunman, 24 year old, Mathew Murray. Here’s is how Bourgannis described the incident.

“They were engaged in a firefight. He was firing. She was firing,” Bourbannais said. “And she was completely exposed. I was in Vietnam for 14 months in combat, and it’s the bravest thing I’ve ever witnessed. She kept yelling, ‘Surrender,’ and returned fire the complete time.”

Bourbannais walked parallel to her toward Murray as Assam shot him.

“As he slumped down and his head tilted, I said to her, ‘That’s the calmest, bravest thing I‘ve ever seen. How did you do it?’ “ he said. “She said ‘I was praying and asking the Holy Spirit the entire time to guide me.’ ”

In her press conference Assam repeatedly made reference to God’s divine intervention. Her account is amazing. You can watch it here. http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/14817480/detail.html

Gun rights groups are already pointing to the shooting as evidence for the need to have well armed citizens.

After listening to Assam, I think this event should be considered as evidence that God still performs miracles and uses people to show that he is real.

Their Cosmic Glory

He knows the truth is his alone
In all its cosmic glory shown
For lib’rals hold all truth that’s known
Of human knowledge all their own

He wakes with truth upon his mind
A gift from Delphi aptly primed
A gaseous form from earth refined
Breathed in with open heart and mind

Dare show this truth with logic fail
He’ll quickly gasp and start to rail
About sacrilege and his holy grail
Of how lib’ral truth will prevail

But lib’ral truth on this our earth
Stands for dumb and evokes our mirth
It’s anchored in a lack of worth
And drips with cosmic logic dearth

It roams the hills on Delphi gas
While smoking blades of funny grass
It burns the minds of the jackass
Who believes he is higher class

So let us write and tell a joke
About these fools we now invoke
They rant and rave just to provoke
But do not like the fun we poke

MURTHA: I CANNOT TELL A LIE…THE SURGE IS WORKING…..BUT!

Democrats like John Murtha are so invested in defeat and retreat in Iraq it’s shameful! After visiting Iraq as part of an official delegation, Murtha had to announce that “it looks like the surge is working.” Why? Because it is! This is the same John Murtha and the same Democratic party that declared the Iraq war lost only months ago and announced that the surge would not and could not work!

Of course right after making his announcement, Murtha got the call.

(SFX OF PHONE RING)
Murtha: Hello, Murtha here.
Caller: YOU STUPID IDIOT! WHAT DO YOU MEAN SAYING THE SURGE IS WORKING. ARE YOU A COMPLETE MORON!
Murtha: Oh, Hi Nancy. Gee, I’m sorry, it just slipped out.
Pelosi: Look Johnny boy, If you don’t get out an announcement clarifying your statement to say the surge is not
working by 3:00pm, I’ll have your balls sealed up in a can diced pineapples so fast you won’t have time to
scream Del Monte!…GOT IT!
Murth: Okay, Nancy…keep you pants on. (SFX OF PHONE HANG UP). Let’s see, I may need to call John Kerry for help
on this one.

So what does John Murtha do within 4 hours of saying the “surge is working”? He issues a statement clarifying his statement from earlier that basically says, even though the military part of the surge is working, the political part is not and therefore we still must have the troops out of Iraq as soon as possible. Is anybody really buying this any more? The fact is it has taken some time for the surge to have an effect militarily and it will take some more time for it to have an effect politically, but signs are indicating that the political part is working too. There is actual sharing of oil revenues between the provinces, without central government mandates forcing it to happen. There are refugees returning to the country. Former Bathists are returning to public office and mainstream society. That is not to say that it could all change tomorrow, but why not cheer for success now? Why not?

For Democrats the reason why is the surge is not working for THEM politically. They are invested in defeat in Iraq and have placed themselves in the position to gain politically if America suffers a defeat in Iraq. And you wonder why I’m pulling for the Bush surge to work.

Murtha couldn’t lie. He had to say the surge is working because all the evidence is there that it is, but Murtha is no George Washington.

Murtha: I cannot tell a lie, I chopped down the cherry tree….BUT only because the tree was not bearing fruit and that tree will never bear fruit so we must redeploy all the cherry trees………..
