Republican Debate. What did you Think?

This debate is a little more lively than the previous one, probably because it is being hosted by Fox News instead of Chris Matthews and company. My favorite moment came early in the debate. Former Arkansas Governor, Mike Huckabee won favor and chuckles from me when he said (paraphrased):

We’ve had a congress that has spent more than John Edwards in a beauty salon.

This may not qualify as one of those knock out type debate moments, but it certainly broke the ice.

Giulani pretty much knocked out Ron Paul when he questioned his statements that implied the U.S. brought September 11 on itself. Ouch!

Anything stand to you?

  1. I, too, laughed at the Huckabee line. Tom Tancredo tried later with a line about “looking for Jack Bauer”, which wasn’t bad either. As for Rudy coming back at Ron Paul, it was appropriate, but my thoughts about the debate in general have been echoed by Rush Limbaugh (unfortunately, I don’t have a radio show to say what I was thinking).

I thought they (the GOP candidates) spent more time getting on each other instead of focusing on the Democrats and what THEY stand for, and what they (the Republican candidates) would do differently to lead the country than what the Democrat candidates are proposing. Or for that matter, what the current Democrat majority in Congress is trying to do with the war funding, immigration reform, the proposed tax hikes, etc. Gilmore did the most accusing, despite the brief riff between McCain and Romney. The media and Democrats alike have to love it when the Republicans attack each other.

Hopefully, as future debates approach, we’ll see more focus on going after the Democrats. Besides, didn’t Reagan have the 11th Commandment of “Thou shalt not attack a fellow Republican”?

  2. I agree, Jim. I do think the attacks have been pretty soft though, so far anyway.

  3. The Republican debate of June 4th was superb. Unlike the Democrats, the Republicans actually speak their minds.
Hillary, Edwards, and Obama look like children compared to the Republican field. From an intellectual standpoint, the
Republicans far out do the “tripple failure” that is Hillary, Edwards, Obama.

  4. Hmm, torture Jack Bauer Style, Expanding Gitmo, and not taking responsibility for our actions in the Middle East (selling weapons to Saddam, training Osama and the Taliban, CIA coup in Iran)…..yes this is defiantly a GOP debate. Haha hahah. I bet you think your a good Christian too…….lol.

  5. The next Republican President better have some good ideas because this is what is really hppening:

In the U.S. interest rate are going lower, Gold is going higher, Oil is going higher, inflation is going higher, the dollar is going lower. What is wrong with this? Everything! At some point the FED is going to have to raise rates bigtime. We are in a very, very, precarious situation at the moment. I think Gold will tripple to over $2,000 an ounce when the market finally wakes up and sees the real inflation. Last I checked a lower dollar = higher import prices. There is no inflation deflator here. With commodities on fire you can forget about that. Bernanke should have never lowered rates last week. However, the Fed might be doing something that few have talked about. Maybe the Fed has abandoned the dollar to crush the trade deficit. Good luck, it will take 20 years to correct our 6% of GDP trade deficit and move it back to under 1% of GDP, unless you want to seriously disrupt the global economy. We are in for tough times people. Very tough! The FED will not be able to save housing with lower rates. We are in for a 10 year decline in home prices. It is called a cycle!

  6. The Republicans debate, the liberals yell at each other.
