MAY YOU LIVE IN INTERESTING TIMES
Could it get any more interesting? What is maybe, just maybe, the most important election of the modern age is still so unpredictable. One poll says Obama up by 7 points, another says its a dead heat. Which do you trust? I’m personally leaning towards the latter, especially in light of the past 20 years of elections.
Could it get any more interesting? Obama’s religion, citizenship, experience, associations, friends, fundraising and even his loyalty to American sovereignty are all, at the very least, worthy of questioning…but by virtue of not being George Bush or a Republican, he gets a free pass.
Could it get any more interesting? The mainstream media has finally come out of the the political closet. The New York Times and MSNBC are nothing more than marketing tools for the Obama campaign and liberals in general. Hey average Joe the Plumber, can you really not tell the difference between Keith Oberman and Bill O’Reilly?
Could it get any more interesting? Al Gore gives a speech at Harvard on global warming during a cold wave with the lowest temperatures in 125 years. Across town a group of cyclists, near hypothermia because of freezing temperatures that threaten to interrupt their bike-a-thon for, you guessed it, fighting global warming. In the mean time, scientific data shows that not only are temperatures no longer rising at the nominal rate of recent decades, but that in fact, they are trending downwards…
and not a peep…not one single iota of acknowledgement from the Hollywood/leftist/Green Nazis…just the same old lies.
Could it get any more interesting? George Soros, the money behind MoveOn.org and so many other liberal, anti-American causes, publishes a book that coincides perfectly with the Wall St. melt down. And the premise of the book. America bad. New World Order good.
The stakes are high America. This election could well be the most important in American history and if the Soros’ and liberal elitiest get their darling boy Obama in the White House, it could be the last.

Man…..I’m suffering from burn-out! I’ve thrown everything that I can reach (without get out of my recliner) at the TV over the past few weeks, except my remote control. I haven’t completely lost it! The polls I’m going with are the one’s that put Obama boy up by 9. Keep that fire under Republicans. Obama’s internal polls have him in a dead-heat with MAC in PA. National polls at this point mean nothing. It’s all up to the electorals now. I STILL say that Obama better have himself a 12-14 point lead on election day if he hopes to pull it off. These states where he leads by 2-5 points are ours! Ask Mr. Bradley.

What is so frustrating to me is that most Americans really don’t understand basic ecomonics. Here is an interesting excerpt from the book “Conservative Comebacks to Liberal Lies.”
“Two decades of data from Boston College and Columbia University demonstrated that when federal spending grows, the stock market falls considerably…..The private sector is, on average, more productive than the public sector. The former is forced to face the market discipline in its decisions while the government does not. Aggregate productivity falls when the goverment crowds out private activity. To “get the economy moving”, government should create the best possible environment for the private sector to flourish (i.e. lower tax rates on individuals and businesses, less burdensome regulations and free trade guildelines). Government spending does not creat new income. It merely shifts exisiting income and has little effect on GDP.”
WAKE UP AMERICA!

Here are some things that have attracted my attention regarding the economy and wealth.
1% of the people in the US own over half of the money. The top 1% have more money that the bottom 95% combined.
$800,000,000,000 every year for the past 10 years have moved from the pool of money owned by the bottom 90% (everyone who makes under $600,000 per year) up to the top 1%. It is not a matter of whether you think it is fair or not; this is an unsustainable situation.
It would take Joe the Plumber 125 years working at his 40K per year salary to earn what Cindy McCain earned this year alone on the interest on her principle.
Obama is suggesting a tax 3% increase for the top 1%, putting them back where they were under Clinton. Investment certainly didn’t suffer under Clinton. Those who make under $250,000 get a substantial tax reduction. They will reinvest that money in the economy, whereas many of the top 1% hide much of their money in tax-exempt off-shore accounts. Even if you earn up to $630,000 per year, under Obama you will only pay $150 more per year in taxes. That doesn’t seem like a lot to me.
The fact is, we have borrowed $10 trillion and we need to start paying that down. Bush lowered taxes on the only group that had any chance of putting a dent in that debt (the top 1%) and doubled our debt. In addition to servicing our debt, we have 3 big expenses in this country: the military, social security, and medicare. The rest of the federal budget is chump change. For instance, welfare is 1% of the federal budget.
Only Lincoln has been handed a more difficult matrix of circumstances to manage than our next president will face. I Obama is not elected, I will mourn for our nation. If he is elected, I will mourn for him.

i see buck is channeling his inner mccarthyism. this campaign isn’t about the issues, rather about the character of the nominees. its not that both of the candidates want whats best, in their opinions, for america rather its one side is pro-america and the other side is anti-america.
ironically, the side that is being touted as pro-america, republicans, have done so much damage to the country. they produced a culture of self interest and cronyism. but i guess the mccain campaign would rather use baseless symbols than talk about issues. how can palin talk about being a regular hockey mom when her wardrobe costs $150,000 and her make up artist is the highest paid campaign worker? its because the mccain campaign has nothing and is desperate. thats why they resort to distraction and smear campaigns.
if mccain was pro america, he would have picked someone beside palin as vp. the one executive decision that mccain made was a failure and showed a need to win an election over whats better for the country.

Gawd, nutslikebush, you are living proof that some people run their mouths (typing fingers) without reading a whit of history. Every time a democrap comes along and promises this type of thing they end up running the economy into the ground and then sarting it back up by starting the only kind of consumption the government directly controls, replacement of goods consumed by war. The last wonderful person who was going to save all of us was LBJ. He not only bulldozed hundreds of black business districts (at the time the black middle-class was solidly republican) to make way for expanded government buildings and urban renewal projects, he also ground billions of dollars and tens of thousands of lives into dirt in VN in order to ensure a booming economy to tax. Now, I’m sure you’ve been brainwashed about FDR so I’ll only mention in passing the fact that nothing he did worked until he geared up for war. True, he tried to avoid war by moving the Pacific fleet to Pearl Harbor (intimidates the Japanese, you see) and escorting ships bound for England half way across the Atlantic (lets the Germans know we’re not pushovers, you see) and helping out Uncle Joe (he’s short on trained officers since his last purge so he’ll need our help until he can rehabilitate those still in the Gulag, you see). But he didn’t have an economy to tax until he got a good old war going.
I suppose you figure that this is all BS, but at least you should have a smattering of history before you start to mourn for the country or for Obama. That way you might understand who will really be getting it (literally) in the neck if Obama gets elected. Fortunately, those young folks who just love Obama are also the ones who will be sitting in some chit hole wondering what happened to them once Obama decides to ramp up the economy he has destroyed by doing what comes so naturally to social engineers on the left. At least Joe Biden told you there’s going to be a crisis even if he didn’t tell you that Obama will respond in a way that requires more blood and treasure than the evil bush has ever spent or ever would.
have a lovely day

Chicago…. Who Runs it:
Senators: Barack Obama & Dick Durbin
Rep: Jesse Jackson Jr.,
Illinois Gov: Rod Blogojevich,
Illinois House leader Mike Madigan,
Illinois Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike),
Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley (son of Mayor Richard J. Daley)
…..our leadership in Illinois…..all Democrats.
Thank you for the combat zone in Chicago.
Of course, they’re all blaming each other!
Can’t blame Republicans because there aren’t any!
State pension fund $44 Billion in debt, worst in country.
Cook County (Chicago) sales tax 10.25% highest in country. (Look ‘em up if you want).
Chicago school system rated one of the worst in the country.
This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois. And he’s gonna ‘fix’ Washington politics for us?
Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul,Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election:
Number of States won by: Democrats: 19 Republicans: 29
Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000 Republicans: 2,427,000
Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million Republicans: 143 million
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2
Republicans: 2.1
Professor Olson adds: “In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great country. Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare…” Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the “complacency and apathy” phase of Professor Tyler’s definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation’s population already
having reached the “governmental dependency” phase.

Ok….Once again I get to bring up my favorite subject. If, IF it’s about being “fair” then why not the National sales tax and doing away with ALL payrole tax? The figures have shown that the revenues to the government would be more than with the current system. With millionaire businessmen paying themselves 200.00 per week, drug dealers, tourists, aliens not paying taxes. The system I’ve seen which I like the best says that groceries, utilities, primary home and one car are all exempt. So, the poor people would actually benefit the most. The people spending the most would pay the most. Wanna save for your retirment? If you don’t spend money and you don’t pay taxes. Middle income people in their 50′s and over are not spending that much anyway. Things poor people are spending their money on would be exempt anyway.

I like the fact that we are finally having a discussion of wealth distribution in this country. It will be good for us to really carry this discussion forward even after the election. Like Obama, I am no socialist, but I would imagine that the real socialists/communists are thrilled that the McCain campaign finally is giving their issue some air time and attention.
Here are some facts that they want Americans to be aware of.
The wealthiest 1% of Americans own 50% of the money. They own more money than the bottom 95% combined.
$800,000,0000,000 per year is redistributed from the bottom 95% up to the top 5% (mostly to the top 1%).
It would take Joe the Plumber 825 years to earn as much as Rush Limbaugh earned this year alone and 7425 years to earn as much as Rush will earn between 2001-2009 under his $297,000,000 contract.
If Joe the Plumber worked for 1,550,000 years and didn’t spend a penny, it would amount to Warren Buffett’s current wealth.
Buffett thinks the super rich should pay more taxes, because they benefit the most from our system and they can afford it. Joe the Plumber disagrees. He thinks guys like him should pay the same tax rate as Buffet.
Obama agrees with Buffett. McCain agrees with Joe the Plumber. Some people get it and some people don’t.

my name is jimmy and I am 8 years old and was really looking forward to Halloween trick or treating this year! Just to let you know that I do work hard around the house to help with the cleaning, taking out the garbage and the lawn and garden. One of my favorite holidays is Halloween and I LOVE the candy. It is so rewarding to bite into my favorite chocolate bar after a long and harrowing work night out with my friends.
My fellow trick or treaters usually walk with me until I sometimes to go the extra yard and take the risk of dark roads, scary houses and those manikins that move and make noise and threaten me with a knife and stuff. I bravely go into the houses sometimes even when my friends don’t, but when I do I compare my candy the them at the end of the night. My friends are really impressed when we get back and start to trade the candy with my friends as I usually have 2 full candy bags to their one, and share and trade with.
My parents taught me to work real hard cause they say that this is what makes America great and that when you work hard you are rewarded. I was talking with some of my friends and they said that an Obama presidency would be good cause change is good for this country (but being only 8 and 9 I know my friends are listening to their teachers cause Obama wants to grant them special rewards or something like that)
For a while I also really liked Obama… I mean we have Obama rallies and also get invited to gay weddings and other stuff even though I am only 8 and don’t really understand all that stuff but usually the food is good and everyone seems real happy.
Then yesterday I got home and told my parents that I was going to be the King of Candy this year and I wanted 3 candy bags to fill. But my father warned me that if I go and work the hardest that only 40% of my candy collection I would be able to keep next year if Obama was President cause of the new Halloween Candy Re-Distribution act. I was perplexed. (I know that is a big word for an 8 year old but what the fuck I’m pissed off!).
I asked my dad why all my hard work and risk taking down those dark scary streets with and without my friends and knocking on doors till the latest hours of the night then ALL my friends, who, by the way are also worked hard for their candy, would be given back to the Obama people for RE-DISTRIBUTION? He further explained that they would get my candy simply because they either did not want to trick or treat, or too lazy to trick or treat. And, this really got to me that simply because I worked the hardest and had the most to give that I would be the one most to re-distribute. My dad said that Obama and this guy Biden calls my hard work and this re-distribution act patriotic! If I am patriot I should give the most of my candy back to Obama to re-distribute and give them most of my hard earned candy.
Well, in the end I don’t like redistribution cause it makes me fell that all my hard work and risk taking down those scary streets and back yards. I think I understand now what all this change stuff is all about and I am not so sure that this change is so good for me. But, I am only 8 and I figure I must be the DUMMEST kid in the room but why should I get twice the candy and give most of it away? I got to thinking that next year under Obama I just may want to take the year off and wait for Obama to deliver the candy to me!

I had no idea that global warming was specific to one state in America.
“It’s been alot colder than is usual for this time of year…therefore global warming is a hoax”. GLOBAL…is that a word you understand? It’s means “affecting the whole world”, not specific to a small part of it at any given time for a specific period.

hjames,
I am assuming that you are among the 95% of Americans who earn under $250,000 per year. If I am right, then your Halloween analogy has a problem. You get to keep more of your hard-earned candy under Obama than under McCain. Almost everyone (95% of us) will get to keep more of their earnings under Obama. But if we are still trying to explain this fact at this late date, then perhaps the ignorance is willful. You can calculate your taxes under McCain and Obama at this site.
taxcut.barackobama.com/
If you make between $250,000 and $500,000 per year, your taxes will go up nominally. If you earn over $2 million a year, Obama will tax you much more than McCain will. McCain will lower your taxes substantially if you make over $2 million a year.

Hmmm….well, it’s interesting. I normally don’t listen to Rush, but the other day I caught him and he was playing soundbites of Obama, Biden and Richardson giving different figures on the tax raise. Obama in 3 different speeches at 3 different times said 3 different things. First he said over $250K, then he said $200K, then he said over $200K. Well, which is it? Biden said a different figure a few weeks ago something like $180 then recently, Richardson, said $150. It seems that nobody really knows what the number is; however, the real issue is that Obama is for redistribution…he and Biden both said it…they believe that it’s our “patriotic duty”. Obama is proposing all these awesome Government-run programs to “fix” America but where is the money going to come from? From the tax payers, that’s who. McCain claims he is for Government reform in spending, not in giving them more to spend. Frankly, I’m not sure if either one of them have the right plan, but I think the latter sounds more logical. Big Government helps no one; not even the poor. Furthermore, who is the “middle class” in America? For people living in NY or CA, $200-250K a year is the middle class; whereas, in KY or TN, it’s not…so it’s all relative based on the cost of living in a particular state. What about capital gains taxes, state taxes, sales taxes, etc…? Besides, there are several ways that the Government can tax the heck out of the American citizens without it actually coming out of our paychecks.
Also, the whole basis of redistribution is about equality…but guess what? Life isn’t fair…and it never will be. The Lord says to take care of the poor because they will always be with us. He also says to give with a cheerfull heart. Whom do you think gets more blessed out of this scenario: A Government handout or citizens lovingly and cheefully helping one another? Forcing people to give their earnings to the poor and allowing them to choose that path for themselves are two different experiences and have a far better outcome for both involved.
All that being said, I don’t really think the mega rich care that much about higher taxes…if you’re a billionaire are you really going to miss a few million? What I think this campaign is really about is ethical, moral and social differences that are dividing this country. I think it has less to do with $ as it does with fundamental belief system that one basis their lives upon. History proves that the greatest nations that ever existed implode not because of the stock market crashing, but due to morality and ethical standards that society lives by start to fail. Hopefully, our nation will prove history wrong.
nutslikebush Says: November 2nd, 2008 at 1:20 am
Tyra,
It always seemed to me that history showed that great powers have always fallen into decline when they became entangled in unnecessary foreign wars that depleted their treasuries and spirits. From Rome to the British Empire, the story has been the same every time. That is why war must always be the last resort and never based on questionable intelligence. I think we will be better off with new leaders who understand the way of peace and have an inner peace and calm that inspires the nation. I hope our next leaders are reflective, not reactive. That they won’t try to intimidate other nations but inspire admiration because of their moral strength. What an amazing change that would be from what we have experienced for the past eight years. Bush, sadly, has been unwise and unskillful and governed like an adolescent.
The stock market failure, the banking crisis, the mortgage meltdown – they all seem like ethical failures of massive proportions to me. The system was arranged, via deregulation over the past 10 years, to enable the greediest people to rise to dominance and then cannibalize the economy. When I heard about the $150,000,000,000 that bank executives who are receiving bailouts had hidden from regulators so they could use the money for executive bonuses, I was sickened. The companies failed to make sound business decisions, yet they think the executives earned $150 billion worth of bonuses over and above their salaries? What kind of crazy ideas have infected the minds of these people who run these companies? Actually, again, and sadly, I suspect that it is just raw greed. But the mantra has been “greed is good”, eh? The people who chant that mantra (e.g., Rush) must have their own unique definition of the word good.

Actually, I just read a 1947 report by Carle Zimmerman, a Harvard sociologist, called “The Family and Cilivization”. In his report, he documented that major civilzations from long ago had begun and ended in almost identical ways related to the family and its relation to the social infrastructure. He found that virtually very major civilization that arose – Assyrian, Babylonian, Sumerian, Greek, Roman, and Western – all began with a strong family unit and resembling the biblical model. He also found that the downfall of each society was directly associated with the breakdown of the traditional nuclear family unit. In his report, Carle Zimmerman describes a systematic series of social events that were common to the downfall of the major civilazations he studied. According to Zimmerman, there are eight symptoms or predictors that foretell the demise of a society.
Imagine what America was like when Carle Zimmerman published his findings. Even his term “pseudo-intellectuals” seems that it couldn’t have been written by a Harvard University professor concerning social liberals – but it was! We have progressed into all eight symptoms of a society in decline. It’s not hype – it’s history. It’s not just greed or war that is ruining our country, because those things have happened in EVERY society, culture and civilazations and it didn’t necessarily bring down a nation. The erosion of the family unit is what eventually imploded these nations. Here are what Zimmerman claims to be the 8 steps to national demise:
(Remember, this was written in 1947)
1. Marriage loses its sacredness, as it is frequently broken by divorce. Such divorces do not consist of guilty parties, but simply two people who wish to terminate a relationship.
2. The traditional meaning of marriage is lost. Alternate forms of marriage arise, and individualized marriage contracts are advocated. Psedo-intellectuals (his words) begin to theorize that in order to save marriage, its form must be changed to a less strict, looser, more companionate structure.
3. The feminist movement abounds. Women lose their inclination for childbearing and rearing, and the birthrate decreases.
4. There is an increased public disrespect for parents, parenthood, and authority in general, so that parenthood becomes harder for those who still try to rear children.
5. There is an increase in juvenile delinquency, promiscuity, and rebillion.
6. The hostility of pseudo-intellectuals toward the traditional family soon spreads to the common people, sealing the doom for the society.
7. There is an increased acceptance of adultery.
8. There is a tolerance for and spread of sexual perversions of all kinds, especially homosexuality, but including others, such as rape and incest. This generally marks the final stage of societal disintegration.
So my point is, I don’t believe either party, Republican or Democrat has ALL the answers. However, the reason why I am a Republican is that those traditional values, freedoms and moral absolutes that our forefathers dreamed of when they wrote the Constitution of the United States lines up more with the Republican docterine. Our country is divided based on these fundamental differences, and taxes, the stock market, etc…are just a tiny piece of the puzzle.

Tyra,
By “marriage losing its sacredness” I assume you mean a 50% divorce rate, Las Vegas-style marriages, and those exemplary unions depicted on Bridezilla of course. All kidding aside (we all know that the sacredness of marriage is purely personal and private and cannot be controlled by society, the church, or the law).
Nah,
I think the sociologist writing in 1947 (before sociology was even a tad bit respectable as a field) got it wrong – it was the foreign wars that brought down the big powers. Marriages didn’t change much in ancient civilizations throughout their reigns. The Roman empire declined AFTER the Christian church was empowered under Constantine – after he had his weird hallucination.
Sometimes I can’t believe that I am having these conversations about things that I thought everyone already knew.

I’m really f* sick of waiting for the wealth to trickle down. Could someone please explain to me why the richest mother* in the world get millions of dollars in tax breaks while the rest of us are actually suffering throught his recession? If we want to start paying off the incredible debt our nation has accumulated maybe we should start with raising the taxes on people who have millions of dollars just laying around in swiss bank accounts. Why give them a bigger break? Give the middle class a break for a change and see what happens.
ALSO… I have to agree that looking at the temperature in one concentrated area and using that to discredit the global warming crisis just doesn’t work. If you look up the average WORLD temperature you’ll see that it has increased steadily throughout the years. The historical patterns that have been steady for millions of years are suddenly abnormal with temperatures rising exponentially for the past hundred years or so. With the exception of creationists (who are probably looking to see if frogs have started falling from the sky yet) not a single credible scientist would deny such evidence of global warming. Instead of sweeping this crisis under the rug and going about our daily business (easy way out) why don’t we actually take responsibility for our planet and what we’ve done to it?
By the way, the heat wont be your problem when Greenland melts away. You’ll be real cold when that starts to happen.
