I agree with The Other Side. Republicans claim less government, but unfortunately the only people who benefit are the one who are rich and powerful. More government doesn’t mean less rights. Sometimes the government needs to step in to make sure all of it’s citizens are being treated as well as their rich friends.

buck, you actually say that you prefer “abuses by the wealthy and powerful” to government intervention? do you also prefer that aig, fannie mae and feddie mac all fail? or do you support the bailouts using taxpayer dollars?

what is so threatening about regulation? trying to police the market isn’t going to strip away our civil liberties. i understand that conservative mantra of “less government” but thats unrealistic. take a look at our current economy and say that less government is beneficial to america/

The elitist ruling class is peopled with Republicans and Democrats. The reason I’m a conservative is because conservatives want less government control. Unfortunately that can allow abuses by the wealthy and powerful, but I prefer that to more government control any day of the week.

Looking into the facts actually proves that the conservative republicans would rather put the power into the government… it was, after all, a republican that enacted the patriot act. And it is, after all, republicans that favor big businesses and shit all over the little guy. Sounds like more power to the government to me.

Rent a brain. Disney, GE, Time-Warner-AOL, Viacon are ALL liberal leaning. Of your dopey list only Fox News is conservative leaning (where Sky in UK is liberal). Again, you’re blind if you think talk radio, cable tv, tv news, newspapers, and magazines are not liberal. Finally, what about the movie industry? They have long been liberal propagandists. Why would anyone discount them from a list of purveyors of media?

Consider that the two (other) black men that I work directly with, in a diverse workplace, are voting for Obama JUST because he is black, is prime example, and this is all over the country. Those guys are conservative thinkers and voted for Bush in previous elections, but this is the mentality. I will not be surprised if the thought police don’t knock down my door for posting this. If Obama gets elected I bet they will, so I’ll ad the word in parenthesis above.

Firstly, the news media are subordinated to corporate and conservative interests. It is controlled and funded by the likes of Disney, GE, Time-Warner-AOL, Viacom and Rupert Murdoch who represent elite interests, and who’s propaganda model tries to stipulate a set of institutional variables, reflecting this elite power.

Secondly, the media world now includes talk radio, cable television and traditional news sources (newspapers, news magazines and the old broadcast networks). Two of these three major institutions lean well to the right, and the third is under constant pressure to avoid even a hint of liberalism.
