THREE THINGS TO PONDOR
THREE THINGS TO PONDER
1. Cows
2. The Constitution
3. The Ten Commandments
COWS
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow.
THE CONSTITUTION
They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq Why don’t we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it has worked for over 200 years, and we’re not using it anymore.
THE 10 COMMANDMENTS
The real reason that we can’t have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse is this: You cannot post “Thou Shalt Not Steal,” “Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery,” and “Thou Shall Not Lie” in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians. It creates a hostile work environment.

Before democrats took over congress, we had a great economy, excellent quality of life, and say what you will about airport security/Patriot Act, but no average American citizen has been bugged and yet no terrorist attacks since. If you think one war that never should’ve happened (wait, what? conservatives aren’t all gun-toting, god-fearing, war-mongering sheep?! :-O) means an entire administration has failed, then that is the exact reason why I personally laugh at liberals.

Nope willy, average people are just added to terrorist watch lists for giving any kind of lectures that go against the traditional spoon fed propaganda that we are supposed to be hearing. People who only care about money and the economy forget that quality of life stems from a lot more.

And for 6 of the eight years repubs had the congress, they did a good job of screwing the economy so bad that your own kids will still be paying for this crap that GB did to us. Get real.
SaveOurSkyline Says: August 26th, 2008 at 5:25 am
What fantastic ideas! This guy is brilliant. Let’s take a look at these proposals:
1. Cows - farm animals can be tracked like this because the government requires a plastic tag with a barcode to be stapled into their ears, and their status and location entered into a national database. We need to start doing this to each resident, illegal or not, immediately (after all, we can’t tell at a glance who’s here legally, so we’ll just all have to be tagged, for convenience sake.) This will give us the added benefit of allowing the Federal government to track citizens who are engaging in terrorist or anti-American activities, such as visiting libraries, participating in protests, or voting for the wrong things.
2. Constitution - why stop there? In addition to requiring Iraq to adopt our constitution verbatim, we should also install American legislators in each government position, and require all official business to be conducted in English (preferably with a Southern accent).
3. The 10 Commandments - after they go up as a symbol of our Christian laws and nation, we need to make sure it’s not just an empty gesture - we need to enforce them! You mentioned lying, stealing, and adultery, but we need to consider the rest of them as well. Those who don’t honor Jesus as the Lord their God, such as Hindus, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Shintoists, Native Americans, Humanists, et al., should be sent to prison immediately. Ditto for those not keeping the Sabbath, creating false idols, or disrespecting their parents.

So you believe in the Constitution, but you also think we should allow the Ten Commandments to be placed in front of courthouses? Isn’t that contradictory?
Kavar Says: August 27th, 2008 at 4:46 am
Well, attacking the spelling is just so easy (and predictable) because Republicans on the internet always seem to spell things wrong. Also, I wish the neocons would go away. The Republican party was something I didn’t always agree with, but I really respected until fairly recently. So Bush, Cheney, Rove and the McCain that has been campaigning for the last 6 months or so need to go away, because they’re hurting this country, and destroying our civil liberties.

“No Brian, it’s not. Apparently you’ve never read the constitution or been educated in any sort of way. Maybe you didn’t benefit from the no child left behind policy?”
Actually, Kolran, most students did not benefit from the unreasonable standards of no child left behind; neither statistically nor practically. It keeps high-performing students from receiving an education at their level and it forces students with disability to perform at a level equal to their non-disabled peers. It also discourages creativity and free thinking because funding goes to teaching things upon which students can be tested.
Even though I had to suffer through a few years of No Child Left Behind, the bulk of my years in public school were saved from it. Therefore, I would say that I have been educated enough to say that Brian is very right. Many of the first few commandments would be explicitly unconstitutional if made in to law. For example, “Have no other Gods before me” would violate the first amendment’s establishment clause and the way it has been interpreted by the Supreme Court. “Thou shall not take the Lord’s name in vain” would violate free speech.
The issue of posting them in a courthouse is unconstitutional because the establishment clause had been interpreted to call for a separation of church and state and that would be posting (endorsing) the tenets of the church in a state building.
RIBudda Says: August 28th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Shelby, aside from the fact that the first 4 commandments relate to “God,” without actually specifying WHICH God - altho’ it’s understood that it’s referring to the God of the Old Testament - just what do you find offensive about the remaining six? I think that they define a pretty good set of rules to live by…or am I just some sort of psycho religious nutjob who gets really fed up with a tiny percentage of the population shrilly telling the rest of us just how offended they are by our beliefs?
The “politically correct” movement in this country has done more to gut the idea that is America than almost any other ideology extant. We’re going to look back on this and wonder just what happened and how did we get to this state, and no one is going to be able to reply for fear of “offending” someone else’s sensibilities.
Melinda Says: August 28th, 2008 at 7:31 pm

Jen Says: August 29th, 2008 at 12:57 am
By posting The Ten Commandments, our country is not “requiring” anyone to have the same views. They are just displaying the views of the men that founded this country. (As well as the views of those of us who realize that without God, we would perish). I guess some anti-religious sentiment would be more acceptable?
Jon Says: August 29th, 2008 at 1:13 am
While I lean more toward the Republican side of things both sides have their good and their bad and we as a nation need to learn to pick what is good, but unfortunately that will never happen because it is human nature. And spelling is a null fact in the long run everyone makes mistakes not just a certain side of an argument.
Gatorman Says: August 29th, 2008 at 3:27 am
Mr. or Ms. SaveOurSkyline, The 10 Commandments are not a symbol of Christian laws, the life and teachings of Jesus Christ is the blueprint of a Christian life. The 10 Commandants were handed done to the Jews and stand among other Laws as a promise from God (Jesus’s Father) to them. As far as Native Americans don’t talk about something you know nothing about. The Native American population of the U.S. and Canada has a higher population by percentage of Christians then any other race on this planet. (I AM NOT A NATIVE AMERICAN, but I have worked on reservations for the government for most of my life. In fact a Indian Pow Wow or any gathering of Indians is opened with a prayer and closed with a prayer. Just had to put my 2 cents in. and old saying is “A young person that isn’t a liberal has no heart. A old person that’s not a conservative has no brain. signed the Gatorman

This, I’m assuming, is the same sort of tonque-in-cheek facetiousness that only people above 40 slap a knee at, and forward to all their other like-minded coworkers. It teeters between seriousness and humor and I’m never sure which of the two these types of conservatives are trying to exude. It’s similar to other off-the-wall correlations like “we should just bomb the Middle-East” and “Obama’s name is so close to Osama so he must be a terrorist”.
CONSTITUTION
I actually like this, especially the “we’re not using ours” notion. In the end, however, I honestly don’t care about what happens to Iraq or what Irai’s ultimately decide to do with one another. Whatever it is, I doubt it would fit within our standards of approval and customs. I would be a liberal if only I had a bleeding heart. I’m just too misanthropic for that.
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
Well, for starters, God doesn’t exist, so that seems pretty redundant. I’m not saying you still can’t do it. I’m just saying it won’t invoke any mystical powers to aide the jurisprudence of a court. In fact, I support a state and/or local government’s right to decide on this issue. Why? Because I doubt there would be many Alabamans whom would be alienated by a public portrayal of the ten commandments. Alas, there is no right or wrong; just what is or isn’t socially acceptable within a community.
As for the Neocons, I prefer Paleocons, only because of their stance on foreign policies being more isolationist as well as their distance from the Evangelical arena in exchange for a more business-oriented attitude towards government.
Communism is still a futile attempt to suspend human existence into a world of redemption, much like Christianity. In fact, both Communism and Christianity attempt to imbue with the world with the same meaning; one just replaces the concept of God with Government. It’s idealistic, but you always end up returning to the same question: Doesn’t Heaven/utopia just eventually get boring?
The pointing out of spelling errors IS particularly childish and usually an indicator of one’s unwillingness to adequately put forth an argument. Personally, I’ll only refer to typos if I’m unable to make out what it is the writer is trying say. Most small, simple, easy-to-make typos, as the blogger makes, are just the result of fast typing and a non-pedantic personality. What’s really annoying are people whom find it incessantly amusing to repeatedly end plural words with ‘z’ and intentionally misspell words like, like dawgz and kewlz.
What’s probably paramount in the compendium of Internet annoyances is when someone doesn’t respond to your comment/post (in an argument) without a point-by-point rebuttal. Instead they simply ignore the finer, more intellectually significant promulgations for rhetorical bantering and bickering. For instance I not only doubt anyone will actually take on SaveOurSkyline’s comment for what it’s worth, but I also doubt anyone, including the blogger, will respond to this comment without dishing out petty insults and name-calling before collapsing into a tangency about grammar or sexual orientation.
It’s sad really.

Pointing out that Conservatives can’t spell isn’t skirting the issues, it is an issue. Being able to spell and communicate - in a manner which doesn’t make you look like a complete moron - is the hallmark of a clear head and a rational mind. If you can’t even string a sentence together at an 8th grade writing level, do you expect anybody to take you seriously when you opine about national policy?

I’ve always found it hilarious that liberals can’t define economy correctly. Liberals always talk about the “surplus” that the federal government had. Sorry to tell you, but the government debt is not the economy. Bill buying bread from Fred, allowing him to pay for his Ford is the economy. What role does government have in that besides taking some of Bill, Fred, and Ford’s money, and giving it to an illegal alien who decided that free health care from America was better than paying for it in Mexico.

But I have to tell ya. You social conservatives (fiscal conservatives are just peaches) are just as loopy as your liberal counterparts. You want G-d back in schools but only the Christian G-d because freedom of religion only applies to Christians. Call people who are like you Americans but everyone else is a socialist Nazi just because they don’t agree with your ideology. And finally Constitutional rights no longer apply to you if your gay. That whole life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness part is only for the good, straight, Christian brethren. Oh yeah the government isn’t supposed to “approve” any certain religion (yeah, it’s in there, go read it) but fags and lesbos are not allowed to have a religion where there’s a god that allows them to get married. That’s just plain Unchristian and we can’t have any of that.

Kyle(a different one), I agree with most of your points, but really, what an obtuse way to get to them. Do you work with a thesaurus regularly? For all your vocabulary you seem to miss the context in which the words work. For example: Promulgations is far to strong a word in this context. People are debating, arguing, commenting, putting forth, expressing, etc..
They are not teaching, putting forth a creed or doctrine. “Promulgate” carries with it the notion of genesis or origination. It is not being used correctly here. Plus you are using the word “whom”, which is an objective pronoun, as a subjective one.
Seriously though, your use of language is no different from those who are correcting the bad grammar and spelling in this blog. Using high language in order to explain a simple idea is an attmept to proclaim, “I’m right because I sound smart.” It is no different from correcting others’ errors.
And UsuallyDark is right. If you intend to engage people in intelligent debate you had better look the part. Sorry, but society just expects it. Typos are one thing, but frequent grammatical error combined with shallow, macho bravado are not the stuff of intelligent debate.
Particularly when the grammar abusers are claiming the intellectual high-ground…well, that’s just ironic.
As you all should know, Ben Franklin purportedly said,” They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security.”
Anyone who claims to be a conservative and agrees with Bush’s handling of the Constitution is a confused individual. You have been duped by propaganda and fear-mongering into nodding your rights away.
From Hermann Goering:
“Why of course the people don’t want war. Why should some poor slob on
a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of
it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people
don’t want war neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in
Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the
country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to
drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist
dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no
voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders.
That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked,
and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the
country to danger. It works the same in any country.”
It’s been used for eons and you fell for it. Give them an enemy to fear…

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or
of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition
the Government for a redress of grievances.
From what I can tell by reading the first amendment. This doesn’t say you can’t have the 10 commandments in a courthouse. It is allowing the free practice of religion, not taking away from it. It seems to me that there have been more laws BANNING the Christian religion in certain situations, violating the first amendment, but there are no laws on the books establishing Christianity as the State religion.
You talk about God being in schools, we allow Muslim schools, but if there’s a Christian school, it cannot be accredited? The only socialist Nazi’s here are the people trying to suppress the Christian religion, because they are not trying to supress any other religion while they are at it.
As for gays getting married, a large majority of the country does not want it, seems to me that democracy is at work there, by most voting it down.
I don’t know of any religion that promotes homosexuality. I guess you’re gonna start one with some new kool-aid eh?

WayneSMT Says: August 31st, 2008 at 2:57 am
Why would you want to laugh at liberals, I don’t laugh at conservatives. I feel sorry for them, but I don’t laugh at them. Most conservatives that I have met are under educated, they only believe the half of the story that they were told and they are handicapped by their fear of the unknown or what someone tells them to be afraid of. Everyone in this country right now is in one of three phases. Denial, Acceptance, Action. Sarah Palin is in Denial still over the environment and the crisis that face our country, as most conservatives are. She believes that mankind has had nothing to do with global warming, believes that creationism should be taught in schools and she is a big proponent of fossil fuels and “drilling” our way out of this. Most liberals I have met are in either Acceptance or Action. When people move into the Action phase it is usually charactarized by Problem/Solution/Elimination methodologies. Where everything is seen as either part of the problem or part of the solution. Problems are either eliminated or ignored. Since they can’t eliminate the conservatives, it is best just to ignore them. I have relegated most conservatives into the classification of the proverbial “They”. “They” are not much apart of my reality anymore, I see them as part of the problem not the solution a big part of the thinking and fascism that has brought this great nation to the point that we find ourselves in today. Interesting side note, most conservatives surveyed have at least 3 televisions and consider themselves well informed. Most liberals I know don’t watch TV, don’t even own a TV. Most liberals that I know do their own research and make up their own minds. Most liberals exercise the grey matter between their ears and are highly skilled critical thinkers. Most conservatives that I know are content to reiterate the same stuff that they hear on TV or on the conservative AM radio shows. waynesdrainsmontana.com/Video/&ZEITGEIST/&(Zeitgeist4)/zeit4.html
Most liberals I know multi-task faster then most conservatives think. Most liberals have seen behind the curtain and seen the strings. Most conservatives don’t even realize that there is a curtain to look behind.

And if you had learned your history, you would know that this country was formed by men who wanted no religious influence in the way our government was run so as to allow religious freedom for all. I think that you believe in my way or the highway. You probably also believe, as some of our senators do, of a talking snake convincing a woman to take a bite of an apple.

Dear Willy: Most average people not getting wire-tapped or being spied on by the government and I doubt any average person has anything interesting enough for them to listen in on. I know I have nothing to hide. This is beside the point. If they take one right away from us, they can take more can’t they? Should we allow our government to take from us what they please? Is this constitutional? Did any one of us say “yes, please give the government the right to listen to my phone calls and check my email whenever they feel like it, just in case I’m a terrorist”? NO. I have nothing to hide, but I’m not stupid enough to sacrifice my rights. OH and you’re right… The Patriot Act is the miracle solution for terrorism because we haven’t had an attack since. Explain to me the last time we had an attack that wasn’t caused by our own citizens that could have been prevented had the Act been in place, could you?
And by the way, it’s not the republicans that are sheep. All people are sheep, just some of them happen to stray from the flock. While you stereotype the liberals for all being stereotypical of republicans, I can only hope that someone out there can look beyond these imaginary parties we’re clinging so strongly to and just use their fucking brain.

people need to read the writing of our founding fathers before they say we are a nation based on christian values. Based on their writing that i have researched they were at the most spiritual if not athiest so how are we a christian nation with laws based on the 10 commandments?
Buck Says: September 9th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
Charlie’s post is such poppycock! This is the same old tired drivel that liberals trot out regarding Christian values. Not only is it patently false, it demonstrates a complete misunderstanding or disregard for the morals and values of the day.
Enlightenment is a process, not a goal. It is never-ending. While a few of our founding fathers may have had views regarding God and Christianity that seem odd compared to modern convention, there can be no question, none, that our constitution and our nation is one based on religious freedom and the founders were almost exclusively Christian.
Maybe people need to read more than a quote or two out of context on some liberal blog.
charlie Says: September 10th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
and your response is typical of what i hear from christians there is a reason why there is no mention of god or religion in the constitution or the bill of rights. and maybe people need to do some reasearch before they start calling things poppycock i have no problem with christian values i have a problem with people who want me to believe in a god who has shown in his own writing to be mean petty and cruel and that is what i am seeing in this country you christians seem to forget that freedom of religion mean all religions not just the christian myth that is trying to be forced down the gullet of free thinking people in this country. We have seen what happens when religion is made a part of govt can anyone say Iran?

I can’t believe people are getting so pissed off. I’m a liberal, you gotta be able to joke with yourself.
But to enlighten Republicans (being from small towns, I’m not sure if you all have lights or not - joke!), the 10 commandments aren’t allowed because aside from lying, stealing, and killing, none of the commandments have anything to do with law and everything to do with a silly old religion.

This is to JC’s post 8/26/08. Shipping jobs overseas is not the republicans fault. You can thank the greedy liberals who perpetuate the entitlement mentality and think unions are still necessary. The majority of the jobs that go overseas are union jobs because they keep demanding more and more from the employer until they have to either raise prices, cut jobs or move overseas. You can also blame globalization. Let’s see. who was it that signed NAFTA??? Oh yeah! Bill Clinton. Isn’t he a king to you f#%*^ing democrats???!!!! People have to realize that they have to earn their keep. I’m sick of having to pay higher taxes to support all these unnecessary “services” that make the lazy even lazier - like welfare. Wake up people! This is our country! OUR COUNTRY!! Not everyone’s country.

Boy am I off on a tear today. unfortunately, I will most likely never happen upon this again, but here goes.
1) economy was tanking in the final year of Clinton’s presidency, look it up
2) no child left behind = everyone has to go at the slowest child speed so that child doesn’t get left behind = every other child is screwed
3) consorting with a foreign government to keep American soldiers in a war longer than they should be is (not should be - IS) treasonous. Traitors in a time of war should be executed, both as a punishment and as a deterrent.
4) welfare and affirmative action are designed to hurt minorities and keep then poor and lower class and uneducated
5) Uppity is not a racist comment. Uppity describes someone who thinks he is better than everyone else. Barack is uppity.
6) For that matter ‘nappy headed ho’ is not racist. ‘Nappy’ is a descriptive term for hair, and could be considered the opposite of ‘fine’. I personally have fine hair, my wife has thicker and coarser hair, or ‘nappy’ hair. ‘Ho’ is a slang term to refer to women; not black women - women. Calling a group of women nappy headed hos is not racist, just ignorant, but that never cost him a job before. Describing a person or a group while stating facts is not racist. Ever. Facts never are; they are by definition neutral. If you say, ‘That group of black men came out of KFC looking well pleased with their dinner. They must have enjoyed the chicken’, you are stating a fact, followed by a logical conclusion. If you say, ‘Them niggers look like they really loved that chicken’, then you are saying a racist comment; the racism here has nothing to do with the mention of chicken.
7) So-called media ‘code words’, words that apparently mean whatever the media decide they mean (rather than the speaker) are a fear based campaign to get any critic of Sen. Obama too afraid to speak out against him
Brock Says: September 17th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Well I was on “stumble upon” and came across this website. I happen to live in a town that has been losing all of its jobs to overseas. The reason for it is because the unions force companies to bankruptcy. Atleast6 that is what I have seen. Now other than GM there are almost no union jobs left. And as crazy as this sounds Wal Mart and other companies are the ones creating the jobs necessary to survive. The rest of the jobs been sent to Mexico. America should not have to live by the ten commandments G-d forbid. But most of them sound like things we should not be doing anyhow. Cheating, stealing, coveting the list goes on. I think that today people are less involved and way less thoughtful of others. And the kids are more spoiled and less grateful than any generation in the past. And I like the idea of tracking our people with tags like cattle. And maybe have listening devices too. That way they can take away our freedoms including free speech. Our countries laws were based on christian principles which I am not saying to be. The further we stray away from what is right (which you have to be crazy if you think those basic principles are wrong) the worse we become as people and a nation. I myself don’t go to church. So attack that if you may. But stealing lying all that apply to our daily lives. Nothing wrong with that…
Brock Says: September 17th, 2008 at 9:07 pm

Obama will win and this place will remain the same. McCain will will and this place will remain the same. The president is a figure head. It doesn’t even fucking matter, does it? And guess what… we’ll all still be here at each others throats for no good reason. People are people… labels create distance. Republican, democrat… I’m just a person. Will any of us just leave it at that?
Buck Says: September 18th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Kiwi,
Unfortunately you’ve got to choose sides. In spite of what the conspiracy theorists would have ou believe, it is we the people who elect our leaders and our leaders do have some say in how our country moves forward.
I am not so simple minded as to think that the rich and powerful have as much, if not more influence, as our government but there is one fact upon which everyone must agree, we the people outnumber them.
Bethany Says: September 19th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
In response to the very first comment; just for your fyi..since you obviously didn’t look up the facts for yourself..The both houses and the senate have democratic majority, and have had it for almost three years now. Hmm..doesn’t that seem funny that Bush’s ratings as President starting going down when the democrats took power back? (Not a ton of people realize that Washington is actually very democratic right now BECAUSE the MEDIA doesn’t tell you that! Think for yourselves people.) You can thank the democratic senate for not introducing any good new ideas and helping to screw up the economy. But just Fyi you know…
The Other Side Says: September 19th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
fyi bethany, the democrats have been in power for almost two years. they spent most of the first year trying to uncover the misdeeds of the administration but were blocked at every turn. and it was the republican minority that fillibustered a record number of bills to block any of the democrats’ ideas. there are going to be democratic gains in both sides of congress, hopefully enough to vote for cloture in the senate to stop the games being played by republicans.
you can’s seriously blame the congress for bush’s falling poll numbers. he barely squeaked by in 2004 and was already in decline. do you think it could have been an unpopular war, unprecidented secrecy from the executive branch or a tanking economy?
the media mentions the congress’ terrible poll numbers and people know its led by democrats. what the media doesn’t mention is the obstructionism on the part of the republicans which is the reason for nothing being done.
Sam Says: September 20th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
Congress has a lower approval rating than Bush does because they can’t seem to get over themselves and get something done. It’s just as much the Dem’s fault as it is the Republicans’. The same obstructionism was done when the Republicans had control of Congress; that’s how politics works.
The Other Side Says: September 20th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
how were the democrats obstructing congress from 2000-2006? tell me then compare it to the record amount of filibusters by the republican minority in the senate or the constant vetoes by bush.
if politics is about petty squabbles and scoring political points then we need some serious change.

Just stumbled across this little debate and wanted to give my thoughts…
Being a European (Irish), I try and get all my news from various media outlets Fox,NBC,CNN and try to find the middle ground between them all.
All news media is biased, either liberal or conservative in the US and in Europe…Each station spins stories the way that will appeal to its viewers.
Its up to us to filter and decide what is the real picture.
On the points to ponder
1.cows
All livestock can be traced on the EU as well. We like to know what we’re eating. No mystery there. They are tagged.
Having had a few scandals here where laptops containing personal information have gone missing from government departments in a few countries. Do you really trust the government to be responsible with your personal information. One woman won the lottery and soon after 72 government officials checked her file out of curiosity. Can we trust them to use this data properly and wisely? Yes if its transparent how it is used…. Proper oversight is required.
2. Constitution
Its up to each country to decide its own destiny for better or worse. Unfortunately in Iraq this will be a painful process. Northern Ireland being a good example, and the Republic of Ireland only emerged after a bitter civil war, and of course the American civil war. Call it the growing pains of democracy. Its unpleasant, but may be required.
Ireland of course has rejected the Lisbon treaty which was the successor to the European constitution previously rejected. Ours being the only country to require a referendum due to protections in our constitution Bunreacht na hEireann.
This was highly divisive across Europe as most countries pushed it through their parliaments to in my mind avoid a public vote.
3. The 10 commandments
I refer to the case of Rocco Buttiglione who was put forward for a position of European commissioner. He was rounded on for expressing the his view that homosexuality was a sin.
This was also a man that said
“The state has no right to stick its nose into these things and nobody can be discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation… this stands in the Charter of Human Rights, this stands in the Constitution and I have pledged to defend this constitution,”
HE is entitled to his beliefs but the EU being totally PC in the extreme effectively forced Italy to withdraw his nomination.
It is right to have a clear division between religion and state. But you cannot or should not pillar someone for their beliefs.
Saying that however for a world leader to invoke god or any other as an inspiration for their decisions is not acceptable. A leader is a representative of all his/hers nations peoples of all creed. decisions need to be based on the correct course of action for all citizens, not just the ones that voted you in or based on your own beliefs sole.
Your beliefs are your moral compass, but only after all information has been assessed.
hopefully this point of view has added some discussion points and the view that it is the will of the people that ultimately should count in a fair and measured way.

I can’t believe how seriously most of you have taken this! You’ve got to be kidding! This is a BLOG, technically speaking, a weblog. It’s someone’s opinion, not a news source. It’s also very tongue-in-cheek. Take it for what it is. Good grief! And, I lean toward the conservative side, and my spelling and punctuation are pretty perfect, as is my alliteration.

What most of you people don’t realize is that you are taking advantage of one of the great things about this country you can’t do this in most countries. We need to realize we are all American for our differences and our similarities. Race Religion belief and all that aside when you boil it wwn we all benefit from this great country. As for outsourcing i am sorry to put it this way i am sure i will hurt some peoples feelings but i don’t think it is a completely horrible thing. Its not eradicating the work force, it is forcing people to get educated so they can make themselves better. It forcing people to progress.
As for saying that we really do choose who runs the country you are living in a dream world. At the beginning of all this campaigning i had a candidate i liked and they were run out almost instantly. We choose which party is going to run the country.
If you agree a hundred percent with any candidate for any office you need to GET YOUR HEAD CHECKED. There is never a great candidate for president just two that we are allowed to choose from. Call me next time you get to participate in choosing who is running for president. Yeah it ain’t gonna happen.
